How to determine the expiration date of an inkjet cartridge?

There are several cartridges HP, Canon, Epson, different models. Is there a universal way to determine whether the cartridge is "sour" or whether it can still be used. For example hp c6657 ae ba5 cartridge manufactured in Apr 2008.

Print a test page.
Usually in inkjet cartridges, the problem is not so much with the ink, but with the print head - whether something has dried up in the nozzle. In many printers, the head comes with a cartridge so that you can simply change it and go on with your life.
If the cartridge has not been used (new), it can lie for quite some time.
