How to determine the cause of Ubuntu freezes?
I'm running Ubuntu 14.10 at work and it freezes from time to time. Sometimes it hangs right away, sometimes it happens gradually - the interface starts to slow down, then the music stutters, the cursor stops moving and hangs tightly. At the moment of freezing, the temperature is within the normal range, it is also not hot inside the system unit, there is no dust. It can hang at any time - in librofise, in gimp, in nautilus or during idle time. There is nothing heavy-loading or memory, except for a virtual machine with ikspi. If you do not run it, it also hangs. Smart disk says everything is ok. Changed memory from another computer. I looked at the logs, but with my level of knowledge it did not give me anything. Rarely hangs itself after 3-4 minutes, usually you have to reboot.
Help determine the cause.

Oh, big bug. Update the kernel to the limit and install the Intel drivers from SWAT.
The freezes will remain, but it will be possible to "hang" the piece of iron by switching to the console and back to x (ctrl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-f7).

Upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04, release on the 23rd, there is a 3.19 kernel and graphics almost like in xorg-edgers, they recently added a fresh one.
I got up dead on my laptop with Intel guts on 16.04, and searched for a problem for a long time until I found this: ... “If it hangs tightly on distra higher than 14.04.3, then 99% that this is due to Intel graphics. I had regular freezes after 20 - 40 - 90 min. It was decided so sudo gedit /etc/default/grub bring the line GRUB_MDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT to the following form (if nothing was added) GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_idle.max_cstate=1" Save, close. sudo update-grub And reboot. The problem should disappear if Intel HD is to blame. "... IT HELPED ME. I specifically drove for a week without reloading the video in the chrome browser.
