How to detect deception when Middle pretends to be Senior or Junior for Middle?

Hello.
Testing is the obvious way. But let's say a fictional example from the air.
The company is looking for a Middle or Senior level candidate. Let's omit the options for contacting recruiting agencies and "I'll call the developer."
We only have HR who has studied the industry for a general idea but does not have the technical skills to identify any special cases. How to understand that you are being deceived by calling yourself a seigneur being a middle. What tricky questions can you ask?

DECEPTION! EVERYWHERE SCAM!
Oh, friend Horatio, what are we to do with you in this world?

  1. Delegate interviews.
  2. Search by recommendations.
  3. Trial period with clear KPIs.
  4. Hire an expensive pro and let him prevail.
  5. Perhaps the person has contributed to open source projects or has some kind of demo project on GitHub.

All these dog regalia are very relative. The most senior senior from JSC VovanIKolyanAutsors may not even be a middle in Yandex or Seagate. HR won't figure it out. Only a conversation with a technical specialist, who will determine whether the seigneur will be for him or not.
