How to deploy an additional domain controller on windows server 2012?

Hello! In the local network there is a Domain Controller on Win server 2008 R2 and so far a new server on Win Server 2012. Is it possible to make an additional domain controller for 2012 or are they not backward compatible with 2008 r2? In the future, will it be possible to promote the role to a domain controller for 2012 and downgrade to 2008 r2?
