How to delete a VKontakte photo through the server API?

the VK API has a method https://vk.com/dev/photos.delete
For some reason known only to the VK gods, this method cannot be called from the server. Tech support says the same thing.
Maybe someone found an alternative and convenient way to delete photos from VK albums through the server API without user intervention?
Photo and album IDs are known in advance. The user token is present. The photo is uploaded by the same application.
