How to deal with illustrations?

There are vector images of objects in 3 colors (roughly speaking white, blue, dark gray) on a transparent background (canisters, tanks, etc.) For the site. The customer asks to remove the white background from the objects (the main color) by making them transparent = a large icon with noticeable shadows.
The background of the customer's site is light grayish
. Is it right to do this?

Do the most efficient way:
Recolor all the icons, place them on the background of the site and show the customer - this is a fig idea, it does not look very good. And you can safely return your color)

Select white color (fill and stroke), for example in Illustrator select - color . Hide, to another layer or delete. You can fill the selected color with the color of the customer. Save as... See what happens.
