How to deal with basic CSS3 pseudo-elements used in bourbon mixins?

I ran into trouble that the bourbon library (version 4.2.6) uses pseudo-elements in the CSS3 syntax (::after, ::before, etc).
What worries me is that they are not supported in IE8 and below (well, on other older browsers, but IE is everything). Yes, and in fact bourbon 4.2.6 support with IE 9+.
Now in thought

  • or download an older version with fewer mixes
  • or redefine such mixes
  • or even more pile up the style file styel.ie8.css
  • or score on IE8
  • something else...

The coolest option is the fourth, but according to statistics, ~ 900k still use it, but on the other hand, since January 12, 2016, Microsoft's support for it has "stopped".
Not that a big project that everyone will use, but still interesting for the future.
Maybe those who have been struggling with IE for a long time and, at the same time, use all sorts of modern features, will share their experience?

@DP-Studio

hit it IMHO. Otherwise, you should think about supporting IE 7,6,5,4,3,2 and definitely Mosaic, what if there are a couple of crazy people in this world who still use it?
