In order for the function keys f1-f12 to work as they should without holding fn, if they are bound by default to work out multimedia functions, on some keyboards it is enough to press fn + CapsLock.
I'll just leave this here in case it's useful to someone =)

Press the f10 key to open the BIOS settings window.
Navigate to the System Configuration menu using the left/right arrow keys.
BIOS setup window with System Configuration and Action Keys Mode selected
Disabled: Requires pressing and holding the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 to f12 keys to use the function specified on this key.
For example, on some computers with Function Keys Disabled, pressing f11 will minimize and maximize the web browser window if it is open. In this case, pressing and holding the fn + f11 key combination will mute the sound.
Enabled: One of the f1 to f12 keys must be pressed to use the function specified on that key.
Press the F10 key to save your changes and restart your computer.

Sometimes there is a "FnLock" key on the keyboard, press it (Fn + FnLock) to fix it
