How to create your own sound scheme for Mac OS X, like in Windows?

In Windows, you can customize your sound scheme: set what sound will be played when opening a folder, connecting devices, and so on. Is it possible to do the same trick on macOS, and not just customize your notification sound. The internal functionality leaves much to be desired, maybe there are some programs?
