How to create a virtual machine image from a physical installation (Linux Mint 11)?

There is a physical installation with a bunch of necessary packages, settings, etc. I would like that when moving to new machines, it would not have to be restored from scratch each time, but could simply be loaded from the image.

It depends on what hypervisor the VM will be under...
The most universal way is to take a disk image and deploy it on a virtual machine... but it's a long way...
There are different ways to do it for different hypervisors!
