How to create a repository on GitHub from a folder on xampp?

Hello! I have a local xampp site project in the htdocs/site folder.
How can I start uploading code to github? I created a repository, installed a git on a PC, but I want the folder name in htdocs to be different from the repository name.

If the site is an independent project, then it would be more logical to do it git initinside the htdocs / site folder, or take the site content a level deeper and fix the Apache configs.
