How to correctly select all unique BINARY values and sort them by number of occurrences?

SELECT BINARY `name` as bname, COUNT(*) FROM `param` GROUP BY BINARY `name` ORDER BY COUNT(*) DESC

such a request is taking too long. Is there a way to speed it up?
