How to correctly proxymap pgsql in postfix?

I read the documentation and I don't understand. When using a mysql or pgsql database as storage of authorization data for postfix, in what cases should proxymap be used, in which cases should it not be used?
virtual_mailbox_maps = proxy:pgsql:/etc/postfix/SQL/mailbox.cf
or
virtual_mailbox_maps = pgsql:/etc/postfix/SQL/mailbox.cf
For example, an average server for 200 mailboxes with an approximate traffic of 240 gigs per day.
