How to correctly indicate the authorship of a piece of code?

Hello!
I want to pull a piece of code from someone else's repository and publish it in my own.
The repository is under the MIT license, but the author asked for attribution.

How would be more correct? Dip a piece of code in a comment like "(C) UserName" or in REAMDE write something like "Thanks uv. UserName for a piece of code"?

If the author does not specify the method of attribution, then you can do it as you like - in the README or as a comment in the code, or both options together.
