How to conveniently and easily connect an old scanner to Windows 8 64bit? Driver does not exist?
There is a PC with Windows 8 64bit and a working Canon LiDE 30 scanner. The manufacturer honestly says that there is no and never will be a driver for 64bit Windows.
I understand that I need to install a virtual machine with Windows XP 32 (for which there is a driver) or with Ubuntu (which supports it out of the box) and share the folder on both (guest and home) OS.
Are there other better options? Maybe there are ready-made solutions that would only share the folder?
PS There is such a program VueScan. But it costs as an inexpensive scanner. I want a free and legal solution.

There is easier, faced a similar problem. I won’t tell you the exact name of the program (I’ll tell you in the evening if I don’t forget), but the essence is that it can work with a huge number of scanners and does not require installation of drivers for them.
Canon LiDE 30, though, is a good, but quite inexpensive scanner. IMHO the easiest solution is to buy a new scanner like this LiDE, but with support for Win 8. For example, LiDE 110.
