I use yii2 advanced, I needed a news section on the site.
I found this module https://bitbucket.org/Eugene-Kei/yii2-simple-news/src
I installed it according to the instructions, but I don't understand what's next.

Must be in reverse order. Here's one:
- learn php
- deal with yii
- make a couple of sites from scratch without other people's modules
- install someone else's module
You just missed some point.
