How to connect to VPN at the router level?
In the very near future I plan to raise a VPN server on a VPS (KVM).
As I remember, in order to connect, the client needs to specify the certificate file on his PC.
But what if I want to connect to VPN at the router level? (TL-WR740N) When I go
to 192.168.1.1 --> Network --> WAN, and select PPTP from the dropdown list, I only see login and password fields. But I still have a certificate ...
Tell me, please, how to be? Maybe you need to build a VPN in some other way to allow authorization without a certificate? Now I use free vpn from globalhome, they gave me only a login and password, there is no certificate there.

It all depends on the type of VPN and its settings. Certificate authorization is a matter of security policies. You can always configure the VPN server with the required settings.
TP-Link is "economical" hardware, it is designed for unsavory users who do not know what a "certificate" is. Accordingly, the router simply does not support certificate authentication. And that's all. You need a different router to use the certificate.
And why do you choose pptp on the router, do you have such a server? Usually there is openvpn, your router does not seem to be able to do it.
