How to clone Windows partition from Linux machine?
There is a hard drive with a Grub bootloader, a Linux operating system and a fifth partition (disk) with Windows.
Task: move Windows to a new SSD and make it independent, bootable.
Problem: the problem is to make the disk executable, ie. add Windows bootloader instead of Grub. Now the Grub rescue > message is coming out. Grub was left in another partition, but how to add a boot section?
Tried to start from bootable USB: 'Start-up Repair couldn't repair your PC'
Thanks in advance,
Sergey.

copy the windows disk
boot from the windows flash drive and restore the bootloader
clonezilla can do everything, including it seems to restore the windows mbr boot sector (ms-sys or mbr utility, for copying), you can manually use partclone, but you can create partitions yourself (specify the same types as on the original
) create bootloader partitions on the disk and with the system itself (there is still a third optional 500 MB for 'reset to factory settings'), as far as I know, you won’t even need to mark the boot disk
. mbr), mark the boot partition as active
ps if you put grub on the second disk after cloning windows partitions, it will detect and add an item to the menu to boot it
Thanks for the help.
Something doesn’t work for me and I go in circles. After your advice, I started all over again.
There is a disk with Grub, two OS Linux and Windows.
When you turn on the computer, Grub starts, I choose to boot Windows, the computer goes to the Windows bootloader, and the boot is in progress. So there is a bootloader in the Windows partition.
After that, using CloneZilla, I clone the Windows partition to the new SSD.
I start from a new disk and again I get the grub_rescue> error How to get rid of this? The new disk should not know anything about Grub! Or I'm wrong?
On the advice of DRNO, I booted from USB and tried to restore the bootloader manually ( https://remontka.pro/windows-10-bootloader-fix/ ). The result is success, but still doesn't work.
