How to choose the right graphics card for your computer?

Good afternoon dear Toasters!!!
Help a person to understand the issue in which it somehow does not work out on its own.
There is a system unit:
Mother : ASUS m2n-sli deluxe (infection, buggy, did not start up the first time)
Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor (AM2, L2 2048Kb)
RAM : 6Gb
Video card : Sapphire Radeon X1950 GT 500Mhz PCI- E 256Mb 1200Mhz 256 bit 2xDVI TV HDCP YPrPb
Power supply : Chieftec GPE-600S 600W
Hard drives : SSD 240Gb and HDD 1Tb
The sistemnik quite suits me, it is quite enough for home needs. If you need to work with graphics (Photoshop, Corel), the computer is very lucky if up to 50 layers are superimposed on the image, then small brakes begin. If you play, then everything is also in order (the video card pulled out (at medium and minimum) Call of Duty except for the last one, Warface is slightly below average, Crysis 1 and 2, Assassins creed 1 and 2, Fallout 3 all versions, etc.)
But in general the question is the following. I want to install a more powerful video card. What parameters should you look at (besides the price) when choosing a video card? What is the correct ratio of parameters to choose? I just read a few articles and they write that you can buy a video card with 2Gb of memory, and it will give out a maximum of 512. bus width or video memory frequency is low. In general, if it's easy for anyone, explain how to choose the right video card so as not to throw money away.
It's just that sometimes you have to work with multi-layer files, and sometimes you want to see how it is to play at medium or high settings. ;)
To all who will respond, thank you in advance!

Oh, I have a big suspicion that you are not resting on the video card. Does Photoshop even know how to use non-professional video cards?
In addition to the price of the video card, you need to look at the price and the rest of the config. With your processor, I don’t even think it’s justified to threaten the modern middle segment. The video card will simply wait for instructions from the processor and do nothing.
If the video card has N memory, then this memory will work with any bus and frequency. The question is, will it be of any use. Marketers can put 4GB of memory on some budget plugs, but in those games and modes where there is not enough video memory for this video card, there is nothing to do, there will be not the number of frames per second, but the number of seconds for rendering a frame.
Separately, the parameters do not mean anything, only everything in the complex. See what families of video cards in the desired budget come across and read their comparative reviews.
PS: about not starting the first time - it's worth inspecting the power supply. If it is old, and even more so if it is the same age as the rest of the config, then the capacitors could degrade. Yes, a variant of the impossibility of starting the first time, but further sane work - this also happens from dried capacitors.

both the processor and the card need to be changed

1. There is a topic on these old motherboards and everything connected with them - https://forums.overclockers.ru/viewtopic.php?f=1&t...
2. There are time-tested solutions for the maximum upgrade (for example, for my old Asus M2N-E came up with a quad-core processor Phenom II X4 945) look for a processor that will be the ceiling for your mother
3. As a conclusion, you will have to upgrade the processor, most likely the PSU.
I would also recommend installing 8GB of memory, with two or four identical slats, in order to optimize memory work.
A video card was recommended to you - nVidia GF GTX 750ti - you can definitely install it, everything above will work, but how much it will open is a question.
PS BIOS will have to be updated to the version that supports the processor.

At the physical level, you need to look at the length of the card, the height in the slots and the depth, because not everyone will fit into every case (I have one that I don’t look at these parameters, the case is very wide and long).
In general, you need to make sure that the generation of the video card differs by no more than 1 with the generation of the processor and / or motherboard, if more than six months have passed since the generation was updated. That is, the map must match the other components.
By the way, I can offer my Palit GTX 970, if you're interested. Still under warranty, bought in Citylink. Well, this is if Moscow and the region.
