How to choose an SSL certificate (HTTPS) for a regular site?

How to choose the right SSL certificate for a regular, corporate website.

What is the difference between free and paid certificates? For example StartSSL.

The main question is: is it necessary to install it for a corporate site?

I have already answered this question about five times probably :) Your site search does not work? :)
For a corporate site, if it does not have a forum, a chat there, some kind of social network, there is no point in installing it - what do you need to encrypt there?
Encryption is needed when:
- a site selling, with user registration, with PD, with transactions
- a site with a forum, social network, imageboard or similar crap To
encrypt corporate news, a product catalog or something else - for what?
The difference between free and paid ones is in the CA that issued it. Each device - a computer, a smartphone, a tablet, some kind of "smart speaker" - has a list of CAs whose certificates it trusts. This list often sewn tightly by the manufacturer and there is no way to fix it (the exception is computers). The manufacturer updates it from time to time with system updates. If you take a certificate from a CA that is not on this list, it's the same as releasing it yourself - there's no point, there will be encryption, but the device will go crazy and write about untrusted certificates. If the site is selling or you need a clear guarantee that it will be possible to access it from a wide range of devices - take a certificate only from well-known CAs, if not, any one will do, although a paid one will save you some time on administration :)
