How to check permissions on .htaccess?

I noticed that if you have some parameters in the .htaccess file, and the server does not allow it, then it will give a 500 Internal Server Error (“internal server error”) error. The fact is that I somehow registered Options -Indexes and HostGator - the hosting on which the server is located does not execute files to display the site
How to avoid this? In order not to get into trouble, if you create a site for someone, and he will tell you like this, they say you are a messy guy, my site is not shown, some kind of error

As one of the solutions to wrap constructions in tags:
with the prescription of the module to which they belong.
For example:

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
  DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
</IfModule>

In general, linking to apache is not the best practice, since the customer may not use this web server at all.
When placing a site on a hosting, you need to ask for access in order to participate in the transfer yourself. It is not always possible to take into account all the subtleties of settings in one file, and some variables may be in values that will lead to incorrect site behavior. For example mbstring.
