How to change user in MySQL?

Hello! I know this is a dumb question for many people, but I'm a total noob with MySQL and have just started learning it. The bottom line is that I go into the client and I am greeted by entering the password for root, which I originally set during installation. Then, I create a new user and try to log in as it, but it doesn't work. Everywhere where I looked, everyone has a trace. Syntax: -u user -p and then hitting enter shows enter password . For me it just jumps to a new line and waits for ; When you exit root with \q, the client simply closes and it also fails to enter another user. It seems that I looked into MySQL syntax, but I still don’t understand what’s wrong?

How to change user in MySQL?

In the current connection - in any way. Just (close it and) create a new connection using a different account.
