How to change the language of the time widget in Ubuntu?

I'm in Hanoi and Unity's tray clock widget shows me the date in Vietnamese. The language of the system is set, of course, English. Question: what for does the unit do and how to change it? Nothing came up on google.

Unfortunately, this widget is not displayed in screenshots when expanded.
