How to change the color of the Android statusbar in Phonegap?

I want to change the status bar on android, I connected the com.phonegap.plugin.statusbar version 1.10 plugin in config.xml. I want to change the color like this StatusBar.backgroundColorByHexString("#8f1f1e"); no reactions.
Tried to hide the status bar StatusBar.hide(); it works. Help why does not change color
