How to change svg color using feColorMatrix?

I am writing an extension. The site has one-color svg icons. They are connected via background-image. I want to make them any other given color.
As far as I understand, I have to do this with the feColorMatrix filter, but I can't figure out how it works. I would be grateful if someone could help me figure it out. Thanks in advance.
