How to calculate the remainder of a division?

I'm bad at math. I couldn't find anything on google to help me figure it out. Please teach me how to count the remainder of the division :)

I found an example like this 17 / 3 = 5 remainder 2
Where does 2 come from? :(

17 - 5 * 3 - that's where the two come from.
