How to become a good and necessary specialist in information security?

I am currently a 2nd year student in IS. A little scary for the future, since IS has a fairly large field of activity and I can’t imagine where to put myself. Kind people tell me the most popular destination in Ib? What is better to learn networks based on TCP / IP or to do programming?

First read what you will study in the next 2-3 courses. Next, decide what you are interested in (I singled it out for myself like this):
Develop / work in the right direction until you understand that everyone has learned / gained experience and you can change direction.
In any case, knowledge of the basics: ISO / OSI and protocols, regulations should be known as our father, even at interviews in large companies, newcomers are driven according to these basics
