How to avoid image quality loss when generating pdf using jasper reports?

Good day!
I ran into the following problem: when inserting large images into a small area (say, an image 3 times larger than the original area) in a pdf report, the quality remains at the level, and when inserting 1 to 1 or when the image is smaller than the area, the quality drops sharply. I'm not very familiar with the principles of displaying non-vector images in pdf documents, but maybe there are some tricks on how to prevent blurry images for my case? Thanks in advance!
