How to avoid ajax request?

I really like to use ajax but it seems very wrong to use if you need to give everyone the same response prepared by the server, what are the alternatives? node.js seems to me to be cumbersome for such a simple task...

What prevents you from giving a "response prepared by the server" without ajax, and what does node.js have to do with it at all?
