How to automate a VPN?

Hello everyone, due to recent events, I want all my traffic to go through a VPN or a proxy, but I'm not sure how to automate this, that is, so that the router sends a signal passed through the VPN without third-party programs.

What I achieved with the help of Google today:
- reflashed the router on FreshTomato so that OpenVPN was available
- set up OpenVPN on the ExpressVPN server in Germany

The speed is very low, ~ 4 Mbps (exactly Mbps), without vpn the speed is +100 Mbps, through the ExpressVPN program itself ~90Mbps

Actually, is there a way to pass VPN through the router without such a big decrease in speed? And what needs to be done for this? I allow the use of proxies, the goal is to bypass blocking.

Any methods, even if I don’t understand, I’ll google it.
