How to auto-update hosts or get a locale host to work?

I run a docker-compose file and I want the host to be registered and the site to be accessible via site.dev - can I somehow do this conveniently?
Ideas
1. Change hosts ala denver
2. dns server via docker
Are there ready-made solutions or how to do it out of the box?
