How to add icons to the desktop in gnome 3.3?

I have GNOME 3.3. In this article , I read that starting from version 3.28, GNOME removed the ability to add icons to the desktop. It also says:

For users who want to continue using icons on the desktop, it is suggested to install the Nemo file manager,

I installed nemo, how do I customize the icons now?
