How to add ENV variables on hosting for access from process.env.?

I am developing an application on NUXT and I have a dozen or two secret keys. When I was coding in PHP, everything was simple, because. the code from the PHP file cannot be pulled out and I just put the keys into one file without fear.
What about when developing with Node.js? Did I understand correctly that any server-side JS file can be viewed, which means you can’t just hide them?
