How to add custom tag to markdown?

It seems like a good library https://github.com/chjj/marked but I can't figure out how to add my own tag. For example, I put the sign <@> and the markdown will parse it for me in [email protected] I can’t see how it works, it seems there are examples, but I can’t make out anything at all.
