How to add an app to UBUNTU top bar?

Hello.
I'm trying to write my own widget application. Ordinary music player. I want to be able to run it from the top panel of unity (this is the one that displays the time, battery charge, current language, etc.) (photo attached). Please tell me how to make my idea come true.

Gnome 3 is now the default (well, or a very high-quality mimicry for it in your screenshot), so write extension under it.
