How to add a file to a folder on GitHub?

The problem is this. There is a repository (if I understand correctly what it is) called test.

Inside this repository is a test folder called sites.

The question is, how do you put files in a folder using Git? Which path should be written? If you write it like this: git remote add origin github.com/*repository name*/test.git, the files will be cleaved into the repository, but not into the sites folder. I tried to write the path in different ways, nothing worked / I tried to find an answer on the Internet, the answers were only to the question: “How to transfer files to GitHub?”. Didn't find anything else but to ask a question here.
