How to activate the favorite application icon on the taskbar?

My app is in taskbar favorites (GNOME, dash-to-panel). When a window opens, a new icon appears on the taskbar. How to make the favorite icon be activated and the new one not appear (as in other applications: Gedit, Nautilus)

You need the correct StartupWMClass entry in the .desktop file.
You can find WM_Class in the terminal using the xprop WM_CLASS command
