How slow are selfhosted fonts compared to Google Fonts?

There is a task to replace the fonts on the project from Google Fonts to selfhosted and completely get rid of the dependence on Google. There are a couple of simple questions:
1. How much will the site load slow down?
2. How can fonts be optimized and accelerated?
3. Will the free CloudFlare plan help or not?

On the contrary, they accelerate. Usually selfhosted loads almost instantly, while with Google you still need to establish a connection and wait for a response. Solid hemorrhoids, in short.
