How secure are secret gist and private git repositories?
If you create a private git repository, then no one but me will see it. But if you create a secret gist note, then by reference it is still visible to anyone. Is there any chance that someone will be able to find the secret gist entry or will it be indexed by search engines?

Secret gists don't show up in Discover and are not searchable. Secret gists aren't private. If you send the URL of a secret gist to a friend , they'll be able to see it. However, if someone you don't know discovers the URL, they'll also be able to see your gist. If you need to keep your code away from prying eyes, you may want to create a private repository instead.
We remember about Yandex plugins and their browser itself, which added all the pages opened in them to the search results ... yes, maybe now they covered it with some kind of crutch, but anyway, if the document is accessible via a link without authorization, then it is not secret.
Those. it is security through obscurity .
Remember, the link will be available forever? every hour the probability of its discovery will grow, so why play Russian roulette, even with a meager chance of losing?
