How reliable is Elasticsearch for Highload? How to implement horizontal scale?

The amount of data is small, sharding is not required.
We plan to use elastic as a search by filters\fulltext.
Requires scalable "on the fly" replication, we plan to use Amazon EC2 as a platform.
The data in the elastic will be constantly updated, it is necessary that the replicas pick up (but not necessarily immediately) the necessary data.
What are the pitfalls?

Replication is convenient. When using it, I ran into two problems - 1) range filter by numbers is slower than full-text search, this surprised me a lot 2) the index crashed a couple of times after elastic was restarted.

no resources other than zhora,
select the right options in Amazon - in the cheapest option with a crash there are no logs, it will be difficult to determine whether it is elastic or not
