How often do you work overtime?
Good day! I just started my career as a system administrator, I worked for only a year. The boss has changed, and he forces many types of work to be done after 18:00, when the users are no longer working, while the time is not paid, the maximum is half a day's time off, and it seems to be doing a favor. Plus, constant reproaches about working hours, that everyone sits and plows, and you are so businesslike leaving on time. (I have a 5/2 schedule)
I realize that this kind of profession is associated with work on the weekends, when none of the employees work in order to prevent accidents and downtime, but for some reason no one wants to pay for it.
There is no choice in my region in IT (well, either the manager is sold, the seller is in five), so I would not want to give up everything.
Please tell me if this happens to you and how you deal with it?

Highly. The boss begins to sit on the neck, forgetting that for this it would be necessary to spread the legs. It’s like with gopniks - once you give in, you won’t get off, you will take it for granted, then, as in this matter, you’ll become more adept at pointing out what and how to do, dictating your licensing policy, etc. It is extremely difficult and painful to treat. Starting with an ordinary squabble (you shouldn’t disdain a swear word, he has already stopped holding you for a person), to direct and direct appeal to the labor inspectorate for a complaint (the application form and sample filling can be found on the Internet). They will gladly accept the appeal and love the boss. You can write everything there as it is - violation of working conditions: do you have a properly equipped dining room?
He also steamed himself at first, worked a lot, both at night and on weekends - if only everything was fine with everyone. This is all from inexperience and uncertainty (in my case). Tasks fell like a waterfall and their number and complexity only increased every month.
But when, after a couple of years, he just started to burn out, another job was found. And what was my surprise when they immediately offered to raise the salary by 40% and hire a second person. True, it was already too late, burnout is not treated just like that, but this is what is revealed when you start to swing rights in your direction. Very useful.
In general, if there is little experience and there really is nowhere to blame, then what to do, suffer, study, forget about your personal and general life and Pasha, seriously. The main thing is to learn daily and row experience with a shovel, as you like. In a year or two, you can break out, if you wish. But to draw up these pieces of paper (try to draw up a normal contract), poke into the labor code of the employer, etc. methods that do not work, at best, they will simply squeeze out, at worst, the work will turn into even more hell.
The career of an admin rarely goes smoothly, the higher the qualification, the less you work with your feet.
The main thing is not to leave the loaders / assemblers / sellers, the work should develop.
You will most likely have to get out of there. Of course, this depends on a lot of things - on the size of the office, on how much work is needed, on the team - it is quite possible that all workaholic fans are there, on hundreds of thousands of factors. But if you take it from a well-known info, you will either have to blame or agree.
In general, I try not to work overtime. Even for money, because the amount that they can offer is not so motivating, given that there is almost no time to "live" anyway. Correctly wrote Stanislav Bodrov - once, and then that's it. It’s worth constantly monitoring vacancies, and then, when something more or less comes across, it’s worth getting into the hole. They will kick you out - well, fuck yourself here, look for fools.
You have an employment contract that says about overtime, there is a labor code. There are always three legitimate strategies for an employer, pay overtime according to my law, they are paid double, give paid time off, change schedule, came an hour late, left an hour later
I am aware that this kind of profession is associated with working on weekends, when none of the employees work in order to prevent accidents and downtime, but for some reason no one wants to pay for it.

but for some reason no one wants to pay for itWhy pay more if you are willing to work anyway?
Administration sitting in the office or remote maintenance of web servers involves working after hours automatically, because users (internal or external) should not feel discomfort.
This work, like any other, must be loved.
When everything works, and the problems that arise are solved in a reasonable time, then the bosses are loyal to you, and you feel good about it. At the end of the year bonuses
If there is no documented employment contract that describes your working hours and conditions, then discuss this with your boss.
As I understand it, the main problem is not so much work after 18, but the requirement to do it suddenly, by order of the management.
Document your work schedule, describing all situations. If the boss doesn't want it, go to the director. The employment contract must suit both parties.
Or quit, because if you are afraid to leave your job, they will sit on your neck.
You can read it, but if you have an irregular working day, then by default you can be attracted, but with payment, and not "time off"
