How much RAM can I put in my laptop?

Laptop dell inspiron 5558
I already have 12 GB sodimm ddr3l (1x8GB, 1x4GB).
I plan to put a 16 GB bar instead of a 4 GB bar (Crucial 16 GB SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 MHz (CT204864BF160B))
Does the laptop recognize this RAM?

unlikely , in general for this generation of processors the limit is 16GB .

It makes sense to throw out 12 GB and put one die on 16.
