There are always a lot of people on the internet who claim they work 10+ hours a day for $50 an hour.
In fact, 8 hours out of 10 they respond to feedback and work another 2 hours for $5 an hour. Those. in fact they work for $1 an hour. And such 90%. Because it makes sense for the customer to pay $50 to Vasyan when a gentleman from India is ready to do the same for $2-5?
Only really experienced and gurus can offer tasks for $50 per hour, which is much cheaper than a specialist in the USA, for example. But they are already looking for such people not on Odessa, but according to recommendations, IMHO.
On freelance exchanges, there will never be a normal project for thousands of hours for a whole team of developers. Such projects are given to outsourcing companies. In general, codemonkey is not held in high esteem these days. Or you work in a company and grow as a specialist, having days off, vacations, sick days, pensions and social benefits. package, or you work for food on a freelance basis. There is a third way - entrepreneurship. But it is difficult and not for everyone.
Of course, now many will start arguing with me. For years, people have been arguing with me on this subject. Which once again confirms my innocence. To argue with me for those who have $ 50 an hour price is expensive, so much time to spend on me, proving something. So those who never see $50 are arguing. Such are the things.

The answer is simple. How long does it take you to learn ruby and make a couple of simple projects that you are not ashamed to show?
First, learn ruby, rails, make a couple of projects for yourself, and then look for a job on odesk. Without a portfolio, it will still be difficult for you, because a normal customer looking for a contractor for a turnkey project will take an interest in your previous work. Without a portfolio, you will most likely be exposed to works such as small improvements, alterations, etc., where you can’t go without knowledge either. HTML \ CSS \ SEO - it will be difficult to compete with the Indians, don't even waste your time.

Sergey speaks his mind, it makes no sense to work on clothes with such a rate. My friend works for 35 an hour, started at 18, before that - 2 years in the office. Works for 6 years, the last 2 years with only one client. Painted as Natasha Rostova - until the end of the ball. PHP-schnik, no education, spoken English. Of course, he left the dress, he works directly. Odessa has done its job, Odessa can leave :) According to him,
no client will pay that kind of money right away, but there is nothing impossible in the rate of 35. I have no friends with a rate of 50.

I failed in two years.
I have been working with .Net for 5 years, there are 4 projects in my profile (made outside of Odessa), .net tests have been passed in the top-30%, but I can’t get an order. Probably problems with the cover letter, so selling yourself is more important than programming.

Took the first order without a rating for a week of work for 45 bucks an hour. You just need to be a pro and be able to demonstrate it :) If you are so cool that you can tell and prove to the customer what he really needs, then he will gladly pay you a lot of money. 45 an hour is entry level for tough kids.
