How to set the display of the remaining time not in the drop-down menu, but next to the battery icon?

To do this, you can use the free utility " Battery Time Remaining ". Download it here: http://yap.nu/battery-time-remaining/ .
If you need more information (temperature, amount of free space, etc.), then I can advise the excellent iStat Menus program . It costs a lot, but the functionality is through the roof.

Right-click on the battery and select "show as a percentage" :)
