How fast are changes in .htaccess applied?

The .htaccess file contained a redirect from page 1 to page 2, now this redirect has been removed from the file, but it still works. Why, maybe the server caches something or do you need to look for where it is still registered?

Most likely, users' browsers cached it. Try opening it in incognito mode, if everything is fine there, then it's the cache, if it's also a problem, then something else.
