How exactly does normalized work?

Stupid question (
I always thought that normalized when entering a Vector into it, gives out its values, but in the form of values -1, 0, 1. But when the object began to move obliquely, the values \u200b\u200bof (0.7, 0.7) were given out. Why ?

Normalization produces a vector of unit LENGTH, but the same direction. It is clear that when moving at an angle, the coordinates cannot be units - but the length can.
