How does YouTube determine copyrighted content in videos?
Let's say I embedded a piece of video or music, almost immediately after uploading the video it has a note that it contains material for which copyright is claimed, and therefore monetization is impossible.
How can this be done in a simplified form?
Perhaps there is an API?

YouTube's technology is called ContenID
Not for everyone, only for media partners there is a ContentID API - to manage "their" content and prevent others from using it.
For your own purposes, look at what is on github on the topic of audio fingerprinting - this is if you are going to make prints yourself and punch through them.
