How does the iSCSI protocol work and how reliable is it in practice?

Good evening.
Those who have already dealt with the iSCSI protocol would like to hear feedback on how this NAS feature works in practice.
There is a network storage QNAP D4 . From it you need to make a local disk for a virtual machine and place a database in it, into which gigabytes of data will be loaded every day. Subtracted that it is realizable through the iSCSI protocol .
How reliable is this system and are there any "pitfalls"?
Thanks in advance for your replies

Of course, I can’t speak in the long term, now I have a 3Par storage system, and through VASA, virtual disks are transferred (or files are simply created), and so, in one virtual machine, 30 1C bases work. So far, the flight is normal.
Here the point is that icsci does not guarantee the delivery of packets, like FC

It depends on how to set up and, most importantly, how well it is implemented in a particular device.

how reliable is the iSCSI protocol in practice

in practice, and there are no alternatives if we need to have access with block devices, but we don’t have FC / FCoE.

iSCSI works fine IF !!! uses a completely separate infrastructure. Your switch, your wires and a separate card. No vlans on shared switches.
