How does the color palette work in Ubuntu terminal?

In the profile settings in the terminal (I use ubuntu gnome), along with the color settings for texts, there is also a "color palette". What are these colors? How to find out which color from this palette is responsible for what? Just above the color palette, there are color settings for text, background, and bold text. And there are no clarifications in the palette. Like, here it is, use it, but what you are setting up at the moment is not clear.
Thank you.

@aiband

there is a limited set of colors that can be used in the terminal - misc.flogisoft.com/bash/tip_colors_and_formatting
and these palettes allow you to change/customize them.
