How does the browser understand the css pixel ratio?

Hello, how does the browser understand which media query to activate? How does he understand how much device density I have (ppi)? And how does he understand by how much to divide the actual resolution of the device from which he entered and all that?
The question may be stupid, but it stuck with me. Thank you all in advance))
